Debra (Debbie) Lynn Gassaway (Wiggins) died the day before her 60th birthday on July 1, 2013 of metastatic breast cancer after fighting it for a dozen years.

She became my high school honey after we first met as counselors at Camp Redwood Glen.  We never had classes together, so we had not met (our LAHS class of '71 was ~550 kids).  But, thankfully, Assistant Principal Larry Rice selected both of us to be councelors the last week of September 1970 at Redwood Glen (Sam Frazer and Jean Thompson were councelors that week also).  We spent the week getting to know each other and soon afterwards, I joined Debbie, Jean and othes to decorate the "Salvstrom's Safari" Homecoming float (a convertable VW bug). That followed with our first date at the Homecoming Dance on Oct. 11, 1970. We dated for the next 43 years and were married for 37 of those years.

A lovely tribute, Brian. I remember seeing you and Debbie together with smiles on your faces.
